Alternative content

This is a recording from the Minority Voices conference, held in Budapest in May 2010.

In this recording:

MRG’s Carl Soderbergh summarises the main thoughts and conclusions of the first day of the conference. In the first session Pieter Bangma (EC, DG Dev), Esther Somoire (CIWOCH) and Sazzad Hussein (Odhikar) were discussing relations between the EC and the civil society of developing countries. The second session was focusing on Latin America. All three speakers Joel Campbell (CEDEHCA), Leydi Constanza Perez Vente (University Santiago de Cali ) and Oswaldo Bilbao (CEDET) underscored the exclusion of Afro-descendant communities from development processes and agreed how limited the EC’s involvement is in Latin American region. Leydi was also talking about the situation of Afro-descendant women suffering from multiple discrimination. Panellists in the third session on poverty reduction discussed the reasons behind the low level of consultation regarding poverty reduction strategies.
